A Trip To Guthrie’s Pumpkin Patch

…with Isaac’s Pre-K class.  That’s why I have been away from posting coupons and specials, I had to come in and work early.  By the way, 10 to 12 hour days are not fun.  Hats off to you that do that.  I can’t do it, but for my family I will in a heart beat.  So Chrystal and I went with him and his class.

First off Guthrie’s is in Riceville, TN.  On the map it is somewhere between Cleveland, TN and Athens, TN.  Getting off the exit you are expecting a horse and buggy coming down the road.  I told Isaac, “I do believe we are in the middle of nowhere.”  He said, “where is that at?”  I said, “It is here.”

When we pulled in there we were met by a massive playground.  With the biggest and coolest slide I’ve ever seen.  Then you could rope a bull and there was a tractor to climb on.  Also there was a petting zoo, a corn maze, the pumpkin patch, AND A ZOMBIE PAINTBALL!!!!!!

Here is the playground

This is the massive slide.  I think Isaac went up and down it a 1000 times.  I did go down it for those who wanted to know.  Before I went up it Isaac stopped me at the bottom and said, “daddy don’t go down it I don’t want you to get hurt.”  Yes I am clumsy.  I’m the only person to have jumped a ditch and dislocated a shoulder.

Then it was time to board the wagon.  Chrystal and I loaded up on the wagon with the small child and his group of friends.  They were being boys and just loud.  One of the dads said, “I now have a new respect for these teachers.”  That is totally true…  I couldn’t do it.  We made it down to the patch and they had all kinds of pumpkins.  Most of them were really small, but they were of different colors.  One of the guys said the tannish looking ones were good for baking.  All I could think of was a pumpkin pie.  I was done for like five minutes and hungry.  We picked up some good size pumpkins and headed back up to the top.

After that Isaac wanted to slide down the slide some more.  I don’t blame him.  Then we made it over to the petting zoo.  He wanted quarters to feed the animals.  So we got him some corn and we fed the goats, made friends with the calves, horses, and bunnies.  Then he went through the obstacle course with all of his friends.  That kid was hot and sweaty.

Guthrie’s is a short and sweet pumpkin patch.  Meaning if you want to go for a few hours and not have to stay the whole day to do fun activities it’s your place.  The cost is $9 for adults 13 and up.  5-12 is $7.  Under 4 is free.  Pumpkins are .40 cents a pound.  The price includes everything minus the zombie paintball.  It’s definitely worth the trip.

Family time is a must…  The more and more I coupon, the more and more I have my family on my mind.  Yes it is a rush getting a good deal, but it means that I can save money for my family.  Family time is better than any stock pile.

Week of 9/22 publix and bilo.

I cannot forget my blog followers… I’m sorry for neglecting you all. The Facebook page is a little more convenient, but everything there is just straight forward. This is where you get to know us and how we operate.

So this week’s grocery shopping trip was not at our usual time. We hit the afternoon rush on Saturday. That was not as fun as first thing in the morning when you feel like you own the store. At publix we picked up three boxes of fruit loops in which Isaac was excited about. We got them for a 1.99 each and got a coupon for $1/3. Then we picked up the old El Paso taco kits for 3.19 total. Had two .50 coupons that doubled so we picked those up for 1.29. The best deal at publix was two Duncan Hines cake mixes for 1.79. Had two .35 which makes it .70 cents off each. So we picked up both for .49 cents. Then we got the birds eye chef’s favorites. Side note: these usually go 50% off. So I try to pick them up then. They were 3 for $5 and had three coupons for $1 off. So I got all three for 2.00.

At bilo we got koolaid hammers 2 for $4. Then we used the ibotta app to earn .75 cents. Picked up BOGO London broils and hamburger meat for 1.99 a pound. Then got six southern home veggies for .58 cents each. For my wonderful wife we got her a week of frozen dinners for $4. Then picked up five sodas for $2.25 and then received .10 cents in fuel perks.

Alright so before coupons: 134.81. After coupons: 65.78. Savings of 48.7%.

Tune in next week.

Aside

Alright so I have been slacking…  I stated that I would post deals that I had on my facebook page to this page, but haven’t.  So that’s what I just did.  everything listed below on the last post is everything that was on the facebook page this week.

So this week shopping it was limited due to my ink running out on the printer.  We did get some scary granola bars (the Quaker Oat granola bars) they were BOGO for $2.79 and had a $1/2 coupon so we got those for $1.79 total.  The Ken’s Marinade and salad dressing was a good buy as well.  They were both BOGO the salad dressing being $3.49 (we had a $1/2 coupon and only paid $2.49) and the marinade was $2.99 (we had another $1/2 coupon and only paid $1.99.).  Stouffers Family Entrees were back to $4.99.  Publix has started doing these for four weeks straight and next week will be the last week for a while.  There is a target coupon for $1.50/1 (if your publix store accepts them as a competitor then use it) so it will made it $3.49 and we took advantage of that deal.  Also there were the standards:  milk, bread, eggs.  Publix had their steam-in-bag $10/10 and these are better than the name brand veggies!  I will go on record and say I rather have them than the green giant ones.

Over at BI-LO we had to pick up the BOGO on Mayfield ice cream.  The snickerdoodle one is completely amazing!  Then we picked up the braves baseball one as well.  It’s white chocolate with raspberry filling and chocolate chunks.  Not a big fan of it, but Chrystal has seemed to enjoy it.  Then we picked up some Parkay butter, carrots, cream of mushroom soup, nail polish remover, and gummies.  The southern home gummys are on price lock until 10/22/2013.  They are a $1.19.

Alright so before coupons are total was $71.25.  After coupons:  $45.06.

Next week:  COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!!!!!!  Forget the pros, this is where the excitement is!  So there will be some good sales since it is Labor Day as well.  So check them out and it will be a good time to stock up on some meat.

Challenge: 4 Daddy and Isaac: 0 and expansion updates

Well…  we didn’t make it again.  This week we were over by $2.28.

At Publix we got two things of pizza, ground turkey, flour, 3 ears of corn, milk, strawberries, 3 ben and jerry pints of ice cream.  (side note:  this was my great coupon purchase.  They were BOGO 3.99.  I bought three of them which made the total $5.99.  Then I had a 2.50 off three coupon, which made it $1.16 each.  Chrystal was really happy about that), and a loaf of bread, pretzels, and eggs.

At BI-LO we got the malt o meal cereal, watermelon, and quilted northern.

Before coupons our total was:  $68.98.  After coupons:  $42.28.

Now here is the expansion part:  Chrystal has put us to a challenge of this week no processed food and has kept us to the $40.  I believe we can do that.  Also on the facebook page I made the challenge to do the $40 challenge with us.  So with that said, we have created a pinterest account.  It is called dadisaacgoshop.  So search for us and add us.  We will put frugal meal ideas for the week’s sale ads.

Long Time No Post

Well…  we are back!  We read your e-mails, your posts, your facebooks, and we missed us too.  🙂  We are not that full of ourselves, but a lot was going on in the past six weeks.  Lessons were learned and honestly coupons started getting boring.  So Chrystal set Isaac and myself on a goal.  That was to come in under $40.  So far Challenge:  3, Daddy and Isaac: 0.  However we have only been over by at most $1.50ish.  This week we were over by .29 cents.

At Publix we got 2 pounds of Jennie-O Turkey Burgers, two Ore Idea french fry bags, two big tubs of sour cream, milk, finish platinum tabs for dishwashing, Lloyd’s BBQ.

Then over at Bi-Lo we picked up the meal deal:  two red baron pizzas, mozzarella sticks, fat boy ice cream sandwiches, and a 2 liter of Vernors.  Then we picked up the Malt-O-Meal cereal.

Before coupons:  $80.15.  After coupons:  $40.29  Over budget: .29 cents.
