A Trip To Guthrie’s Pumpkin Patch

…with Isaac’s Pre-K class.  That’s why I have been away from posting coupons and specials, I had to come in and work early.  By the way, 10 to 12 hour days are not fun.  Hats off to you that do that.  I can’t do it, but for my family I will in a heart beat.  So Chrystal and I went with him and his class.

First off Guthrie’s is in Riceville, TN.  On the map it is somewhere between Cleveland, TN and Athens, TN.  Getting off the exit you are expecting a horse and buggy coming down the road.  I told Isaac, “I do believe we are in the middle of nowhere.”  He said, “where is that at?”  I said, “It is here.”

When we pulled in there we were met by a massive playground.  With the biggest and coolest slide I’ve ever seen.  Then you could rope a bull and there was a tractor to climb on.  Also there was a petting zoo, a corn maze, the pumpkin patch, AND A ZOMBIE PAINTBALL!!!!!!

Here is the playground

This is the massive slide.  I think Isaac went up and down it a 1000 times.  I did go down it for those who wanted to know.  Before I went up it Isaac stopped me at the bottom and said, “daddy don’t go down it I don’t want you to get hurt.”  Yes I am clumsy.  I’m the only person to have jumped a ditch and dislocated a shoulder.

Then it was time to board the wagon.  Chrystal and I loaded up on the wagon with the small child and his group of friends.  They were being boys and just loud.  One of the dads said, “I now have a new respect for these teachers.”  That is totally true…  I couldn’t do it.  We made it down to the patch and they had all kinds of pumpkins.  Most of them were really small, but they were of different colors.  One of the guys said the tannish looking ones were good for baking.  All I could think of was a pumpkin pie.  I was done for like five minutes and hungry.  We picked up some good size pumpkins and headed back up to the top.

After that Isaac wanted to slide down the slide some more.  I don’t blame him.  Then we made it over to the petting zoo.  He wanted quarters to feed the animals.  So we got him some corn and we fed the goats, made friends with the calves, horses, and bunnies.  Then he went through the obstacle course with all of his friends.  That kid was hot and sweaty.

Guthrie’s is a short and sweet pumpkin patch.  Meaning if you want to go for a few hours and not have to stay the whole day to do fun activities it’s your place.  The cost is $9 for adults 13 and up.  5-12 is $7.  Under 4 is free.  Pumpkins are .40 cents a pound.  The price includes everything minus the zombie paintball.  It’s definitely worth the trip.

Family time is a must…  The more and more I coupon, the more and more I have my family on my mind.  Yes it is a rush getting a good deal, but it means that I can save money for my family.  Family time is better than any stock pile.

Week of 9/22 publix and bilo.

I cannot forget my blog followers… I’m sorry for neglecting you all. The Facebook page is a little more convenient, but everything there is just straight forward. This is where you get to know us and how we operate.

So this week’s grocery shopping trip was not at our usual time. We hit the afternoon rush on Saturday. That was not as fun as first thing in the morning when you feel like you own the store. At publix we picked up three boxes of fruit loops in which Isaac was excited about. We got them for a 1.99 each and got a coupon for $1/3. Then we picked up the old El Paso taco kits for 3.19 total. Had two .50 coupons that doubled so we picked those up for 1.29. The best deal at publix was two Duncan Hines cake mixes for 1.79. Had two .35 which makes it .70 cents off each. So we picked up both for .49 cents. Then we got the birds eye chef’s favorites. Side note: these usually go 50% off. So I try to pick them up then. They were 3 for $5 and had three coupons for $1 off. So I got all three for 2.00.

At bilo we got koolaid hammers 2 for $4. Then we used the ibotta app to earn .75 cents. Picked up BOGO London broils and hamburger meat for 1.99 a pound. Then got six southern home veggies for .58 cents each. For my wonderful wife we got her a week of frozen dinners for $4. Then picked up five sodas for $2.25 and then received .10 cents in fuel perks.

Alright so before coupons: 134.81. After coupons: 65.78. Savings of 48.7%.

Tune in next week.

Labor Day Roadtrip

Over Labor Day we decided to take a family trip to the wonderful Blue Ridge Mountains and go through Copperhill, TN into Blue Ridge, GA. Now in the past few years, we have made our pilgrimage out there in the fall. My grandma has property out there so we usually go for a weekend and just have a good time visiting a place where time did forget. This time we just did a quick day trip to visit some friends who moved out there and of course go to Mercier’s Apple Orchard.
First stop right into Copperhill was to the Barn Door Market. It is a new shop right at the edge of town heading in like you’re heading to Blue Ridge, GA. The actual address is 199 Ocoee Street Copperhill, TN. The owners, Tony and Christy Seepe, have been friends of ours for many years. They have everything from little knick-knacks to dressers and buffets. A few rocking chairs are out front there. A lot of coffee tables and various pictures were found toward the front. From their Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/barndoormarket, they are always posting different things they receive. There are some pictures below of some of the items for sale.
Now since it was a little after 12 noon, we were a little hungry. So we went into Copperhill to get some lunch. Then we realized there were several places that didn’t take a debit card. However down the strip, all these restaurants smelled amazing! I could have eaten my weight in food. The two that were the best smelling were the Georgia Boys BBQ. I believe we were the skinniest people in there and everyone looked very happy eating what they were eating. Then we walked over to the Pearly Gates restaurant and they had a standard menu of sandwiches, burgers, and all still really low on pricing. So we loaded up and went straight to Mercier’s to eat.
Arriving at Mercier’s needs to have a trumpeting upon entering because of the magnificent view of the Orchards. The place is this little farm type looking store that has been maxed out a few times and added onto. We made it for lunch at the café. Chrystal got the farmhouse salad, Isaac got the grilled cheese, and I got a gyro. It was probably the best gyro I have ever had! The greek pasta that came with it needs to be produced by the gallon. I could eat that all day long. After a wonderful lunch, we wandered around the bakery and bought some fried pies, Isaac got a caramel apple, and Chrystal got her a fried pie as well. Now here is a side note on the fried pies. Any flavor you can think of, they more than likely have! I tried the cream cheese one and it tasted like a fried cheese cake. We also picked up some amazing apple butter. I told Chrystal I wanted to bring a $100 here and just load up on the bakery. Pictures of the goodness are below. Now Isaac hung out at his favorite spot: The Tractor. This kid loves to ride tractors or get in anything that has a steering wheel.
I know it sounds cliché, but I love time with my family. This is why I do this couponing because I want to save my family money and to document the fun and exciting adventures that we have. So heading out to Mercier’s is always fun and brings a smile to all of us. It also reminds us that we need to interrupt the daily routine and head out on those trips, dinners, dates, and just plain quality time. You have to make memories that will be remembered.

Updates

Hello everyone!

To let everyone know Isaac and I still have not met the $40 challenge. However for the month of July we have had a lot of events.

First off Chrystal graduated with her Masters degree in Education emphasis in History. Then we had different things going on with family events and all.

I have been utilizing the Facebook page more, http://www.facebook.com/daddyandisaacgoshopping. So those who haven’t started following us go right ahead. I’m usually posting all sorts of coupons and status updates through out the day. With the timing feature on there, I have been able to schedule updates so it has been nice. Plus a lot of pictures are on there of Isaac, myself, and people who venture out with us.

We have also started venturing over to Aldi. Overall not a bad place to shop especially for fruit and veggies. We got $20 worth of veggies and it has lasted us almost two weeks. The rest of the stuff the jury is still out on.

For those who are looking for back-to-school updates and supplies we have it up and going. So follow us for all of the happenings.

We have made it to Pinterest as well. The screen name is dadisaacgoshop. This is where we take our shopping a step further. We take what is on sale and plan meals around them. Plus we have added frugal money saving products that are not an arm and a leg.

Hope everyone is doing well. Give us a shout out sometime.
